I was bitterly disappointed the other day to learn that, in all likelyhood, Mr. Jackson will not direct The Hobbit.

I would like to express my thoughts as to why I think he (and his original team) should and to encourage you to add your name to a couple of petitions (links later).

To start with, I would like to state the following: Maybe another director could have done just as well... or better... or almost as good as Mr. Jackson did with the LOTR trilogy. But the fact is, it was Peter Jackson who gave us the three films.

In my opinion, his interpretation of J.R.R.Tolkiens book was fantastic. He really brought the book to life for me - almost, but not quite, as I had imagined. But so close that I now 'know' what Hobbiton, Middle Earth etc. was like.

To change director now would, in my opinion, spoil the magic he created. Making The Hobbit is not like Star Wars etc. This is about bringing a much loved book to life.

Yes, I know that The Hobbit and LOTR were written for two different audiences and that hobbits were originally described in The Hobbit as being somewhat smaller than they are in LOTR, but so what! It's the same ring, the same Hobbiton, the same Bilbo etc.

Although there is plenty of scope for CGI 'action' in The Hobbit, there's lots of other stuff there too and I believe that Peter Jackson & his team are the only ones who could provide continuity and maintain the 'magic'.

As for New Line making money from The Hobbit without Mr. Jackson & team, I doubt it - no amount of 'hyp' will make-up for the Tolkien/Jackson fans who will boycott such a production.

If we (the fans) knew that Mr. Jackson & team had made the film, then we'd know what we'd be getting and we'd 'flock' to the cinema. We know the story - what we want is to see it 'for real', the Jackson way - 'cause that's our way too.

I must admit, even if it is a case of cutting my nose off to spite my face, I'll not be paying good money to go the cinema to see The Hobbit made by anyone other than Mr. Jackson & team - I'll just wait until it's on television.
